Why You Deserve a Maternity Photoshoot | West Sussex Maternity Photographer

If you've found yourself searching for a West Sussex maternity photographer, there's a good chance you're wondering whether a maternity photoshoot is really worth it.

Maybe you've been putting it off because you don't quite feel like yourself. Perhaps you don't feel "glowy" enough, or you're waiting until you feel more confident. Can I let you in on something?

Almost every mum-to-be who steps in front of my camera tells me the same thing. I also felt the same when I was pregnant with both of my girls. Being in front of the camera felt awkward, unnatural, and I didn’t feel my best at all. But I knew I deserved to have this incredible moment captured because, after all, growing another human is simply a miracle.

Almost every mother to be that steps in front of my lens leaves saying they never imagined they could feel so beautiful. They leave feeling so empowered and safe. During my maternity photoshoots, it’s not all about taking photos. It’s about talking you through your pregnancy if you want to do so and discussing all the things in between.

Maternity photoshoots aren’t about looking perfect. They are about celebrating one of the most incredible seasons of your life.

Pregnancy is beautiful... but it's also hard

Let's be honest. Pregnancy isn't always the glowing, flower-crown-filled experience social media sometimes makes it out to be.

It's aching hips, an aching back, sleepless nights because the 4th maternity pillow you purchased just ISN’T the right one. It’s feeling resentful towards your partner because they are having a beautiful sleep, it’s wanting to eat everything but nothing, its being so thirsty you could drink an entire lake, it’s needing to pee every 2 minutes and it’s full of anxiety and excitement.

But remember, amongst all of that, you're growing an entire human being. Your body is doing something extraordinary every single day, even when it doesn't feel like it. As a West Sussex maternity photographer, I believe that deserves celebrating.

One day, you'll miss this chapter

Right now, it might feel like pregnancy will last forever. The appointments, the tiny kicks, the excitement, the nerves. You’ll be doing endless preparations, scrolling through baby blogs to find out which sleeping method is the best or which beside crib is the best for co-sleeping. Your bedroom may be full of baby bits and you’ll feel so overwhelmed about where to begin with all of these things. How can someone so small need so much stuff?

Perhaps you’re even googling for the 20th time “it is normal to have itchy nips?”. YES. YES IT IS.

Then suddenly...your baby joins you earthside. Before you know it, those tiny newborn cuddles become first birthdays, school runs and growing independence. Pregnancy becomes a memory, which is where your photographs become the bridge back to those feelings.

Not just how your bump looked. But how deeply you already loved the little person growing inside you.

You don't need to know how to pose

This is probably one of the biggest worries I hear. "What if I'm awkward?"

I promise you that you don't need to know a single thing about posing or being a model. I will guide you through the process and make you feel graceful and beautiful.

When you book a maternity session with me, I'll gently guide you every step of the way. Nothing is forced or overly posed and we can take as many breaks as you need. We'll wander through beautiful countryside, stroll along the beach, chat about your pregnancy, laugh together and simply enjoy slowing down for an hour.

Some of the most beautiful photographs happen in between the posing anyway. The little smiles, the quiet moments and the way you instinctively rest your hands on your bump. Those are the memories worth keeping.

More than photographs

When people think about booking a West Sussex maternity photographer, they often imagine they're paying for beautiful images.

But I hope you leave with something much more valuable.

Confidence.

A reminder of how incredible your body truly is.

A chance to pause before life changes forever.

Because once your baby arrives, you'll naturally spend every minute making memories of them.

This session is about making memories of you, too.

Include the people you love

Your maternity session doesn't have to be just about your bump. Include the people that you love in your maternity session. Partners are always welcome, as well as older siblings. Perhaps you have a furry friend that has been at your side since you found out you were pregnant?

Some of my favourite moments happen when toddlers cuddle your tummy without being asked, or your partner looks at you in a way you don't even notice. As both a West Sussex maternity photographer and West Sussex family photographer, I know these tiny, genuine moments become the photographs families treasure the most.
